Hello! Welcome to your Monday edition of Culture over Coffee, brought to you by Delta WiFi, flight delays at LaGuardia, and my 3rd fountain Diet Coke of the weekend, in time for your Monday afternoon coffee debate (should I really have another coffee today??). Can you believe it’s June 8th???? Where is the month going?
While I was busy supporting one of my college BFFs getting married this weekend, Dua Lipa was taking over a Sicilian villa for her own nuptials (finally an internet rumor I have believed that turned out to be true!)

Having seen many couples both IRL and in the pop culture news get married, I think June 6, 2026 is a lucky day for seriously in love couples. Also I can’t get over this stunning feathered Botegga Veneta gown she wore to her welcome party on Friday. I haven’t seen pics of her actual wedding dress yet but after her court house wedding ensemble last week and this gorgeous gown this week, I’m sure it was insane (complimentary).
If my love doesn’t look like that, I don’t want it, so for now I’ll enjoy my clean apartment, quiet mornings, and only cleaning up after myself for as long as I have it. Let’s get into the things you may have missed:
Top 5 Cultural Moments of the Week that you may have missed:

happy prideeeeee!
How could I forget to mention last week: it’s officially Pride Month 🌈🏳️🌈🦄. Madonna performed a surprise pop up show in Times Square last week in partnership with Grindr, Ashlee Simpson performed “Pieces of Me” (one of my many childhood AIM screen names btw) at a WeHo Pride music festival in LA, and the Tony awards (Broadway’s biggest night) were last night. World Pride this year will be a two week celebration in Amsterdam, so if you’re Euro Summering end of July/early August, consider swinging by and partying with the Dutchies.

What’s going on with men’s basketball? I’m sure you’ve heard from someone in your life that important basketball games are happening. If you’re in NYC hopefully you know it’s the NBA Finals and the New York Knicks are currently in the lead for the championship, but if you didn’t know, welcome aboard the “Knicks new fans” train. In the words of sports commentator for the girls, Mariah Rose, this finals match up is a Gen Z team (the San Antonio Spurs) vs. a millennial team (the New York Knicks). If you want all the details told in a way that’s quick and for the girls, Mariah’s content is for you. But if you want the quick hits, here’s what you need to know:
San Antonio Spurs have a 22-year-old, 7’ 4” phenom Victor Wembanyama (he’s also from France) and are regularly cheered on but local nuns (yes, nuns, because Texas).
The Knicks have 29-year-old, 6’2” father of one Jalen Brunson, who many basketball commentators have said is too small to lead a team to the championship. Brunson is joined by Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges (his former college teammates at Villanova - cute!) and hottie Karl Anthony Towns who is currently engaged to Jordyn Woods (formerly famous because she was childhood BFFs with Kylie Jenner).
Though a globally iconic team, the Knicks haven’t been to the NBA Finals since 1999, so the city is really banding together in a way famous rapper Fat Joe described as “unseen since 9/11.”
My dad’s a lifelong Knicks fan, but I fell off the men’s basketball train a long time ago. However I live above a sports bar that always has their windows wide open and the Knicks games with sound on, so I now have become a re-emerged Knicks fan. We’re up 2-0 in a best of seven championship series with Game 3 happening tonight on home turf at Madison Square Garden. Trump is also supposed to be in attendance, so I can’t wait to see how loudly he gets boo’ed.

Quick update: It’s projected that Spencer Pratt will not be advancing in the LA Mayoral primary race THANK GOD. Here’s an updated list of the celebrities that supported him and also a reminder he spent all of his Laguna Beach money on crystals. Like, spiritual rocks, not the drugs.

I'm not gonna link this because I doubt anyone cares.
In other Albanian news (Dua Lipa is Albanian, lest we forget), the country has been protesting Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump’s attempt at building a luxury resort (and essentially owning control of) on the island of Sazan, for almost a week now, drawing crowds of hundreds of thousands of people. The country’s population is only 2.4 million people, so this is a big deal. Kushner and Ivanka as saying they “discovered this beautiful untouched Mediterranean island,” but Sazan is a former military base riddled with snakes, and featuring bunkers, fortresses and other things billionaires need to survive their self-imposed apocalypse. Not to mention, Sazan is strategically placed right between the Adriatic and Ionian seas (it’s not even in the Med) and could be pivotal in controlling the passing of ships in and out of that part of the world. Call me crazy, but I don’t think Jared Kushner and the Trump family should control anything, let alone global supply chain of resources. (BTW this is all happening because of government corruption by Albania’s prime minister, Edi Rama, so the Albanian people are protesting him too.
I went to the Albanian coast in 2024 and it is STUNNING. Keep the Trumps out of it!
Political corner, it’s crazy y’all.
We’re nearing both the 250th birthday for the United States of America (July 4th) and the 80th birthday of Trump (Saturday, June 13), and the unhinged celebrations have started to emerge. First up is a UFC fight on the White House lawn, with a huge circus/local carnival structure being built on the White House lawn. TBH I can’t get my brain to not register these photos as AI, because it’s that unfathomable, but alas, they are real.

watch the video on threads it’s ridiculous
Filmed on Saturday but aired on Sunday, Trump had a dementia melt down (allegedly) during a Meet the Press interview and “stormed” out of the interview early. He was red as a tomato, and became offended when host Kristen Welker pressed him on his many false claims. The interview was a recipe for disaster anyway - Kristen is an intelligent bi-racial woman and we know how much Trump hates that. He also almost fell over when he was trying to storm off set, and I think it’s time we get grandpa a cane and a nursing home. Here’s a video summary of what happened if you want to learn more.

this on threads also got me, love a mean girls reference
Honorable mentions from the week, extra long edition:
Men’s soccer teams have been arriving at their base camps for the FIFA World Cup and many of the Nordic teams are having a hard time adjusting to the North American heat. Team Norway has been seen sunbathing as part of their acclimation/prep for the tournament. The World Cup matches start this week on June 11th.
A white French girl has trademarked “Hot Girls Read” after “getting into reading 3 years ago” (what does she mean?????), and is threatening to sue the global bookish community for use of the phrase, which of course is making people drag her over the coals. 1. Hot Girls is a phrase most notably associated with Megan thee Stallion (you know, Hot Girl Shit and Hot Girl Summer, etc etc), so we love when a white girl steals shit from black women. 2. People have found the use of Hot Girls Read dating back to the Tumblr era of the internet so IDK why this girl think she invented it. 3. When I was in Paris for work in February I kept saying to myself, their culture feels like quintessential imperialism, so I feel vindicated in that gut feeling by this story. Full video summary here.

love that millennials are pulling out the receipts
The Love Island USA season 8 cast appears to be dumber than ever, and many people have been pointing out that they’re the first Love Island cast of true covid teens. Some of them were sophomores in high school when Covid hit, and now we have to deal with cast members who don’t know where New Hampshire is and a number of other insane things they’ve said on national television. Tune in every weeknight except Wednesdays on Peacock to join the party!

Energy for the week ahead…
TBH IDK what the astrology is for the week (go to your fave astrologer for that this week) but the energy is WEIRD. One one hand, we’re living a New Yorker’s dream with Mamdani as mayor and Knicks winning 13 games in a row so far. On the other hand, the government is detaining World Cup players and questioning them for hours on end, plus requiring Iran to leave the states immediately after each of their games (they literally have to fly in and out the same day because racism). So IDK what to say, but um, maybe just find little pockets of joy each day as we figure out wtf is going on.
In the meantime, Happy Pride!
