Good afternoon prettybusy community! I’ve been busy with rest lately, so today’s Culture over Coffee is a midday treat. The unofficial theme of today’s issue is “rooting for everybody black” except noted anti-semite and anti-black-people Kanye and the like (more on him in Honorable Mentions). Let’s jump right in, shall we?
Top 4 Cultural Moments of the Week that you may have missed:
Even hotties need rest, just look at Megan thee Stallion’s IG post this week after her hospitalization mid-show during Tuesday night’s performance of Moulin Rouge on Broadway. She shared that she’s been pushing herself past her limits and running on empty, causing her body to say ENOUGH and make her sit down. I appreciate her sharing this, so many people are still trying to keep up with hustle culture and prove they can do it all (I’m actively working on reversing this conditioning). Your body will take you out if it needs to, so maybe give yourself an early night in on a Saturday night every once and a while like I did yesterday.

This week, NASA decided April Fool’s Day (4/1) was a good day to send the Artemis II on a mission flying around the moon, the farthest any humans have gone since Apollo 13. It’s real though, look at this video of people watching the launch from their airplane. This mission is piloted by a black astronaut for the first time ever: Victor Glover. Glover, a 49 year old Californian is a Navy aviator who has already been to space, spending 168 days at the International Space Station (ISS) from 2020-2021. He’s joined by three other astronauts: Christina Koch (one of the first women to participate in an all-female spacewalk in 2019 at the ISS), Reid Wiseman, and Jeremy Hansen. They’re expected to swing around the moon today, and return back to San Diego on April 10th. NASA’s website has all the info you need to keep up with them, and in the meantime I’ll leave you with this incredible Glover family photo:

someone said “even their dog is black” and now im crying
The Summer House drama sparknotes: It’s all my TikTok feed is showing me, even though I don’t watch Bravo’s Summer House, but my algo knows I love the tea, and Ciara Miller from Traitors US Season 3. Miller, COVID ICU nurse turned Bravolebrity on tv-show Summer House has had an on-again, off-again relationship - situationship? - with a medium ugly man named “West.” Ciara’s best friend on the show, Amanda Batula, has had a tumultuous relationship with her husband Kyle Cooke since season 2 back in 2018. Amanda finally announced her divorce from Kyle in January, and now, three months later, has jointly announced a relationship with West. Not only is this scandalous because what kind of best friend dates your bff’s ex, but also this season’s of Summer House, airing now but filmed last summer in 2025, features a main storyline of Ciara and West rebuilding their friendship and deciding if they are going to get back together. What’s worse is two weeks ago on the show, Ciara opened up to her castmates about the toll of being black in America and the fallout from her breakup with West. It’s my understanding that a major issue in Ciara and West’s relationship was that he wouldn’t claim her/settle down with her, but now all of a sudden he’s okay with making things Instagram official with Amanda?? If you want to hear more, check out my IG video discussing the white supremacy and patriarchy of it all. Here’s what they all look like so you can understand who. you’re seeing all over your social media feeds right now:

TMZ is weaponizing itself against Congress: this week they put a call out to everyone asking to send photos and videos of all 535 members of Congress enjoying spring break why the government is still partially shut down (longest in history) and TSA is still not getting paid. What’s interesting, at the time of me writing this on Sunday morning, TMZ’s website is down (tin foil hat: they’re being hacked/cyber-attacked because of all the embarrassing photos of Lindsay Graham at Disney World they’re releasing). I don’t necessarily agree with TMZ’s ethics and morals, but hey, I really like this example of using your platform for the good of the people. Read more in CNN while their site is down, here.

Honorable mentions from the week:
Olivia Rodrigo announced her third studio album, girl so in love, releasing on June 12th. Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye, should still be cancelled for his many many transgressions, but he played a sold-out stadium concert in LA this weekend, proving once again that “cancel culture” isn’t real. Sinner’s star Hailee Steinfeld and her football husband Josh Allen announced the birth of their daughter. Zendaya’s new romcom, The Drama, co-starring Robert Pattinson, (this will never not be weird to me) released this weekend, right before the much anticipated season 3 premiere of HBO’s Euphoria on April 12th. Manon, the only black member of KATSEYE fame (you know, that k-pop inspired girl group created on a Netflix show that had that viral Gap commercial last summer?), removed the group’s name from her IG bio this week while on a health related hiatus but then also released a statement about positive conversations with her management, so we’re not sure what’s going on but it doesn’t seem good. Lastly, in the latest WWIII news: Iran is trolling Trump/the U.S. with ai-generated LEGO videos, because they know he can’t read.

Astrology/Energy for last week…
Last week we had a Pink Full Moon in Libra which put the focus on partnerships, both personal and work related. Why was it pink? “The name is rooted in ancient Native American traditions that connect to Nature, in this case, the pink flowers that were seen to bloom every year in April, around the time of the Full Moon,” per Vogue Australia. The energy seems up, IMO, especially because Bluesky and Threads were ablaze yesterday with rumors that Trump was hospitalized on Saturday (unfortunately he posted on his social media platform Truth Social today).

What’s New on the Blog this Week:
Why AI is Bad Part 3: The Contradictions of AI, a Masterclass in Marketing a marathon of an essay discussing the reality behind the marketing claims of AI. It’s less fun than the other parts, but necessary to arm yourself with facts and a great exercise in critical thinking. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one, even if you just read the bolded parts of the bullets lol.
That’s all for now, we’ll be back next week (if I remember while I’m on a bachelorette party) and in the meantime check the socials for other hot button topics. Please don’t forget to subscribe for future issues of Culture over Coffee and feel free to forward along to your friends!! Thanks for reading!
